7 Days With Manus AI: Why It’s Worth Every Credit

I remember the first time I tried Chatgpt last year. It felt revolutionary – until I hit its limitations. Ask it to research something complex or execute a multi-step task, and it would politely explain why it couldn’t help. That’s why when I got my hands on Manus AI last week (after waiting months on that infamous waitlist!), I was prepared to be underwhelmed. Another AI promising the moon but delivering a pebble.

Boy, was I wrong.

For those who haven’t heard the buzz, Manus AI launched in March 2025 as an “autonomous AI agent.” Unlike typical chatbots that just respond to your questions, Manus actually does things – researching topics, building websites, analyzing data, even creating presentations without constant hand-holding. It’s basically the difference between having an assistant who needs step-by-step instructions versus one who just gets things done when you explain the goal.

If you’re not familiar with Manus AI, check out my overview here.

(Manus AI: The Future of Autonomous AI)

The first task I gave Manus was something I’d struggled with for days – analyzing my company’s messy sales data to identify trends. I uploaded the spreadsheet, explained what I needed, and then… well, watched in amazement as Manus’s virtual computer (a transparent side panel showing its work) started organizing data, running calculations, and building visualizations. Forty minutes later, I had a comprehensive report that would have taken me days to create.

What struck me wasn’t just the result, but watching HOW it worked. Manus thinks differently from other AI tools I’ve used. It doesn’t just follow instructions – it develops its own approach to solving problems. When it encountered gaps in my data, it noted them, suggested solutions, and even explained its reasoning as it proceeded.

That said, Manus isn’t perfect. The system crashed twice during my first week, and some tasks took frustratingly long to complete. The credit-based pricing system feels a bit like a digital slot machine – you’re never quite sure how many credits a task will consume until you’ve committed. I asked it to research competitors for a new product launch, and it burned through credits like they were candy while delivering results only marginally better than what Chatgpt could have provided.

I’ve got to admit – there’s something both fascinating and slightly unsettling about watching an AI work this independently. Let me give you an example: When I asked Manus to draft some client emails in my communication style, I watched as it analyzed dozens of my previous messages without me specifically telling it to do so. It studied my tone, common phrases, and even how I typically structure responses. The results were spot-on – emails that sounded exactly like me. Impressively effective? Absolutely. A little bit invasive? That too.

Where Manus truly shines, though, is with complex, multi-step tasks. Last month I needed to plan a business trip to Tokyo, which would normally mean hours of research across different websites. Instead, I simply explained my trip requirements to Manus – dates, meeting locations, food preferences, and budget.

Within an hour, it delivered a complete travel handbook with detailed daily itineraries, restaurant options that matched my taste preferences, a section of essential Japanese phrases, and maps with all my meeting locations clearly marked. It even highlighted some local attractions near my hotel that weren’t on the typical tourist path. What would have taken me an entire evening of planning was handled efficiently while I focused on other work.

Is Manus worth the hype (and the wait)? For casual users, probably not yet. The system still has stability issues, and the costs add up quickly. But for professionals who regularly juggle complex research, data analysis, or content creation tasks? It’s a game-changer that genuinely saves time.

What fascinates me most about Manus isn’t what it can do today, but what it represents for tomorrow. We’re witnessing the evolution from AI that simply responds to AI that takes initiative. We’re going from using AI as tools to actually working alongside them like teammates. The line between “assistant” and “colleague” is blurring in ways I never expected to see so soon.

I’ve been in tech for many years, and I’ve learned to be skeptical of revolutionary claims. Most “breakthroughs” are just incremental improvements wrapped in marketing hype. But occasionally, something comes along that fundamentally shifts what’s possible. Manus feels like one of those moments – imperfect, occasionally frustrating, but offering a genuine glimpse into how we’ll work alongside AI in the future.

The question isn’t whether autonomous AI agents like Manus will become part of our professional lives – it’s how quickly they’ll evolve from novelty to necessity. Based on my experience so far, that timeline might be shorter than any of us expected.

Have you tried Manus or similar AI agents? I’d love to hear about your experiences in the comments below!
